Got that “new year, new kitchen” renovation itch?

Hi Reader,

It’s January… which is usually when my shop starts getting calls from folks who have decided that this is the year they FINALLY tackle their kitchen.

The new year planning energy is high right now, and it’s tempting to start creating new mood boards or calling contractors to "just get a quote."

But planning can also get overwhelming fast:

❓Maybe you don’t know where to start…
❓Or you feel like you’re going in circles…
❓Or you’re just not sure where to get the info you need.

And it gets even more complicated when you’re working on your kitchen. A kitchen isn't just a room, it’s the most complicated (and expensive) part of your entire house.

There are a lot of moving parts, and getting it nailed down can be tricky and frustrating.

So rather than feeling like you need to tackle everything at once, let’s simplify and organize things a bit.

I just published a new post that breaks down the 4 critical areas you need to focus on as you plan your kitchen reno this year:

1️⃣ Budget: Setting a real-world number that makes sense for you and will keep your decision-making on track.

2️⃣ Appliances: Your fridge and stove specs actually dictate things like cabinet depths and electrical layout. Picking them now is the only way to avoid expensive work-arounds later.

3️⃣ Layout: Moving a sink on a floor plan is free, but moving it during construction costs thousands.

4️⃣ The Timeline: Giving yourself lead time and setting realistic expectations so you aren't washing dishes in the bathtub for six months.

The post also includes a checklist with the exact steps I suggest you follow, and a ton of links to other resources to help you start planning. Check it out now, or pass it on to a friend who could use it!

Have a great weekend,
Gerald
