Hi Reader,
When it comes to home construction and reno projects, there’s one conversation that gets avoided more than any other: the budget.
Homeowners avoid it for a few reasons:
- They’re not sure where to begin. Totally understandable! Construction budgets are complicated and can quickly feel overwhelming.
- They’re not sure how the process works or what to expect. Is now the right time to talk about money?
- They don’t want to challenge or question the professionals they’ve hired — after all, isn’t that why they hired them?
But (even worse, in my opinion), professionals avoid it too.
- They want to keep the homeowner happy, so they avoid telling them the hard truth about how much things really cost.
- It’s early in the process, there are a lot of unknowns, and they want to push the conversation down the road until the “real numbers” hit.
- In the case of many architects and designers who don’t have direct construction experience, they may not know the true cost of building their design.
Whatever the reason, the result is the same: poor communication, surprise costs, painful compromises, and a whole lot of stress.
Ultimately, as the homeowner, it’s your money and your dream that’s on the line.
And that means...
💰 You get to choose how the cash gets spent.
💰 You get to choose professionals you can trust to spend it wisely.
💰 And you get to choose how frank and frequent those essential budget conversations are.
You're still the boss.
Which is why our next few newsletters will focus on budget. We’re covering contingency funds, scope creep, pricing models, and more.
I’d love to know the top issue you’re facing when you think about budgeting for your reno project.
